TODAY we wish Sunderland AFC chairman Bob Murray a quick recovery from his injuries sustained in a disgraceful incident in a Newcastle restaurant.
As chairman of a football club languishing at the bottom of the Premiership table, Mr Murray can expect a lot of stick from fans.
But to be physically attacked while enjoying a quiet meal with his wife was absolutely shocking.
Not only was Mr Murray glassed in the up-market eatery - his wife Sue was also hurt by flying glass.
Mr and Mrs Murray were having a meal with club manager Mick McCarthy and his wife Fiona in the Indian restaurant on the Quayside when the shameful assault took place. Let's hope police quickly catch the culprit.
And there was another ugly side to football this weekend when fans brought shame on their clubs by wrecking a tribute to football legend George Best.
As most supporters nationwide either stood in silence or clapped heartily to pay their respects to their idol, Leeds fans - sworn enemies of Best's old team - shouted abuse.
And the minute's silence by Manchester City - United's arch rivals - was also cut short after hostile chanting before the game with Liverpool.
But on a happier note, United will now let their fans decide on a fitting permanent tribute to the football legend.
How nice it would be if the club decided to erect a statue in his honour at Old Trafford.
But wouldn't it be even more poignant if Best's monument lay in the shadow of Sir Matt Busby - the great man who guided him in life.
