POLICE have closed down a pub and plan to ask magistrates to extend the closure.
Northumbria Police raided the British Lion, in Carlisle Street, Felling, Gateshead, and seized what they believe to be cocaine.
They ordered the pub to shut for 24 hours using powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act and will today ask the town's magistrates to extend the closure to three months.
Superintendent Mick Hassen said: "We are determined to tackle anti-social behaviour in all its forms but particularly where it stems from alcohol and drugs misuse. This action should serve as a warning to other licensed premises.''
The operation was part of a Don't Spoil the Party campaign to tackle drink-related crime and disorder in the run-up to Christmas.
