VILLAGERS are being urged to help prevent their new park from being vandalised by youngsters.
Craghead Community Park, which includes a multi-purpose pitch, was recently completed with funding from the £30m Barclays Spaces for Sports programme.
Craghead Development Trust led the project and will work to ensure long-term use of the park and provide coaching, kit and equipment to encourage residents to get the most out of the new facilities.
The trust worked with Groundwork West Durham to install a toddlers' play area in the park.
Trust chairwoman Janice Docherty said: "At long last, the park is finally complete and Craghead Development Trust/Community Partnership are absolutely delighted. However, we need the support of the local residents to ensure their children do not vandalise this play area and also that the residents are prepared to report any damage."
Kevan Jones MP attended the opening and said it would help strengthen community spirit and give the health of the village a boost.
