A GREEN Santa will show young families on low incomes how they can keep warm without spending a fortune on energy bills and adding to greenhouse gases.
The environmentally-friendly Father Christmas will be at Chester-le-Street Methodist Church, Market Place, between 10am and 1pm on Tuesday.
The town's SureStart and Chester-le-Street Warm and Healthy Homes have organised an event as part of the nationwide Warm Homes Campaign.
The campaign, by energy efficiency charity National Energy Action, aims to cut the number of winter deaths and reduce cold-related illnesses by telling people who cannot afford to heat their homes in winter that there is help available.
Affordable warmth officer Catherine Pope said: "I am pleased to be supporting SureStart and the Warm Homes Campaign.
"We are working all year round to help local people keep their homes warm and healthy.
"It is important to remember that cold homes do not discriminate. It affects both the young and old."
Parents can get information on making their home warmer and the grants that they might be able to claim while entertainment is laid on for the children, including the chance to visit Santa's grotto.
