A CAMPAIGN to generate funds for charity has been given £25,000.
County Durham Foundation, a charitable trust, has launched the Darlington Champions scheme to attract funds to the borough.
Companies and individuals are being urged to become Darlington Champions by pledging money and support to the foundation.
Darlington Building Society announced it had kickstarted the campaign with a £12,500 donation.
British American Tobacco, which closed its factory in Darlington last year with the loss of 500 jobs, pledged to match the donation.
The profits of the County Durham foundation's investment fund will be distributed to good causes across Darlington.
Donors can qualify as a Darlington Champion by donating as little as £100.
Champions are ranked bronze, silver, gold or platinum.
Darlington Champions qualify for a range of benefits, including invitations to an awards dinner next year.
