RESIDENTS of a Teesdale village are being encouraged to light up the parish this Christmas.
Etherley Parish Council is asking all residents on the main routes of Toft Hill and Etherley to put up window lights to brighten up the parish. The lights will be bought by the parish council and residents are already showing a keen interest.
The scheme follows a successful competition last year for the best lit-up house in the village.
The parish council chairman, Councillor Martin Clark, said: "Unfortunately, we are unable to erect lights on the street light columns, so we try each year to think of novel ways in which the community can become involved in making our village look a little special.
"We hope lots of people take up our offer and become involved, it's not too late, just let us know if you would like us to buy some window lights for your home."
For more information call the parish clerk, Alison Overfield, on (01388) 833293.
* On Saturday, December 10, a Christmas Fair is being held in Toft Hill Community Centre from 1.30pm. There will be stalls and refreshments.
