AN operation will be launched next week to crack down on motorists parking in pedestrianised areas of Bishop Auckland.
Police will launch the traffic enforcement scheme, designed to educate road users about when red zones are in use in Victoria Avenue and Newgate Street.
The areas are pedestrian-only zones between 11am and 4pm and the operation will see road users reminded about those times and, where necessary, fixed penalty notices used.
The operation will run from Monday, until Sunday, December 11.
Special Constable Ian Feldon of Bishop Auckland Police said: "If you arrive at 10.59am, you can park for an hour. So it is between noon and 4pm when we will try to really enforce it.
"We'll be talking to people, we will have posters and leaflets and where needed, we will use fixed penalty notices."
Backing the scheme, Derek Toon, Bishop Auckland town centre manager, said: "I feel it's important to make sure that people can get into Bishop and park safely."
