PEOPLE'S views are needed on a new document that will ensure the historic village of Piercebridge retains its unique character.
Piercebridge was designated as a conservation area in 1972 and now a document has been drawn up to look again at its special qualities, architecture and historic places of interest.
The draft character appraisal details all the factors that make Piercebridge a conservation area, including old buildings and ancient monuments.
It also shows areas within the conservation area that need improvement because buildings are in bad repair or land is being underused.
Darlington Borough Council wants to hear people's views on the draft document during a six week consultation.
All views will be taken into consideration and where appropriate the character appraisal will be amended.
The final document will help ensure the conservation area is maintained and identify places where work could be done to enhance the area.
As part of the consultation, which began on Wednesday, November 16, there will be an exhibition in the foyer of the Darlington town hall today and tomorrow
The exhibition will show details of the character appraisal and how it will affect residents, owners and occupiers of properties in the village. The consultation is not limited to those who live in the village.
Copies of the appraisal are also available at Piercebridge post office, the town hall's development and environment department reception and at the Crown Street library.
The deadline for all comments is Wednesday, December 28.
