PREPARATIONS are under way for a charity concert at a County Durham school.
Young musicians at Barnard Castle School are tuning up in readiness for its third gala concert.
The concert takes place at the school on Tuesday, bringing together soloists, the junior and senior orchestras, wind band, chamber choir and the jazz band.
Pupils have been spending their lunch times and after school practising for the big night, which is open to the public.
The concert is free but donations will be taken for the Butterwick Hospice, one of the school's chosen charities.
The audience will hear a variety of music, from Bach to the Beatles, in the Big School and and the Dining Room, from 7.30pm.
Head of music Mark Mawhinney said: "This will be the third year we have staged the gala concert and this promises to be the best yet.
"The children and the community really enjoy the night and it also raises invaluable funds for a worthwhile cause."
Tickets are available from the school office on (01833) 690222. The school is also giving a traditional carol concert at the Bowes Museum on December 9 at 7.30pm.
