AN anti-theft group has been presented with a safer business award from the Home Office.
The group, in Scarborough, is the first in North Yorkshire to be given the accolade.
It was awarded in recognition of the group's work in making Scarborough a safer place to shop.
A partnership has been set up in the town involving retailers, businesses, the police and the borough council, with radio and CCTV links between various shops to stop criminals from shoplifting.
Partnership chairman, Councillor Janet Jefferson said: "We have worked very hard to set up effective partnerships and combat crime in the town and it is fantastic to have this hard work rewarded by the Home Office.
"With large numbers of people now heading to the shops to get their Christmas presents, it's great to be able to promote Scarborough as a nationally recognised safe shopping destination."
