THE chairwoman of the Durham and Chester-le-Street Primary Care Trust (PCT), Lady Ann Calman, has been re-appointed to the post to serve for another two years.
Lady Ann, who is the wife of Durham University chancellor Sir Kenneth Calman, a former Government Chief Medical Officer, has been the trust's chairwoman since it was set up in April 2002, helping it to achieve three-star status.
Lady Ann, a retired teacher who has more than 30 years experience in education, has been particularly focused on developing ways of getting the public involved in health services through local advisory groups and an annual conference that is attended by more than 100 people.
She has also been committed to the development of palliative care in the Durham and Chester-le-Street area.
Lady Ann said: "I am extremely pleased to be allowed to continue serving as chair of the PCT. The team of people working for the PCT are all dedicated to ensuring that the population of Durham and Chester-le-Street have access to the best possible health services and this is reflected in the attainment of three star status every year since ratings for PCTs were first introduced in 2003."
Lady Ann has declared no political activity and holds no other ministerial appointments. The annual remuneration for the trust's chairwoman is £19,454.
Tony Waites, chairman of the County Durham and Tees Valley Strategic Health Authority, said: "My congratulations go to Lady Ann on her reappointment for what I am certain will be another successful term in office."
