HUNDREDS of soldiers are being prepared for war, supported by artillery and tanks.
Their chosen battle ground is Stockton, but there is no reason for residents to be alarmed.
The battalions being assembled are all table-top armies of miniature model soldiers whose generals are war gaming enthusiasts out to have fun and raise lots of money for charity.
The warfare is being played out on Saturday - 25 years after two physically-disabled model enthusiasts decided to celebrate the International Year of the Disabled - by staging an event showing off their hobby.
The Parade Ground convention of table-top battles, model club displays, living history re-enactment demonstrations and trade stands has earned national recognition over the years.
Senior local government officer David Clemmet and Remploy management team member Tom Davidson have organised 18 war games, while 27 specialist retailers and manufacturers will attend the anniversary show at the Stockton Sports Centre, in Talbot Street, Stockton.
Mr Clemmet, who has been involved with the charity Mobility International at local and international level for more than 20 years, said: "We have some superb military models on display, even though model making in the area is on the decline over the past few years, which we find very sad.''
Mr Davidson said: "It is a red letter day for us - our 25th anniversary. Not many shows in the North-East have been running longer than us."
