THE public is being asked to help Hartlepool prepare a blueprint for the health and happiness of young people.
Under the Children Act 2004, councils must have a Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) in place by 2006.
The plan is based on five key elements of the Government's White Paper, Every Child Matters.
These are: be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well being.
The first draft of the new plan is now available and Hartlepool residents have until December 16 to submit their views.
All views received will be considered and a second draft will be produced in January.
A further consultation phase will then follow, prior to its implementation. The plan will continue to be reviewed every three years.
Councillor Cath Hill, the council's cabinet member with responsibility for children's services, said: "It is important that everyone in the town is given the chance to help shape this new plan.
"We all have a responsibility to achieve the very best for children and young people, and this is your opportunity to make it happen."
Copies of the first draft can be obtained from the Civic Centre or by visiting www.hartlepool.gov.uk or, for more information call (01429) 523774.
