A church was illuminated by new floodlights last night.
Thirsk Town Council has provided the lights for St Mary's Church, which were switched on by town mayor, Janet Marshall.
The event followed the official switch on of Thirsk's Christmas lights, at 6pm.
St Mary's is also planning a series of events to mark the season of Advent. From December 2 to 10, it will holds its second Advent Christmas tree exhibition. The exhibition, on the theme of Christmas carols, will be open from 10am to 4pm each day.
An Advent carol service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, December 4. On December 5 there will be a special organ recital at 12.15pm in aid of the Organ Restoration Fund.
