A TRIBUTE to a former nursery school governor will today be unveiled for future generations to enjoy.
George Dent Nursery, in Elms Road, Darlington, commissioned a storytelling chair to be carved out of a copper beech tree which used to grow in its gardens, to honour the late Winifred Tearne.
The chair will be dedicated today by members of her family and friends, as well as school staff, governors and council representatives.
As well as being a governor at the nursery for more than 20 years, Miss Tearne, who died three years ago aged 80, was a lecturer at Darlington Teacher Training College.
She was involved with the British Association for Early Childhood Education and was editor of the organisation's magazine for many years.
Pat Pennington, headteacher at George Dent Nursery, said: "I valued her very much as a friend.
"She gave very good advice and I had a lot of respect for her. She was a lovely person.
"The area will be a peaceful haven for the children."
