TWO photographs of North Yorkshire landscapes have won a competition held to highlight how farmers manage the countryside.
More than 80 entries were received for the Making Green Ground competition, run by the northern branch of the National Farmers' Union. There were three winners, two taken in North Yorkshire.
One shows straw bales at Ripley, near Harrogate, left, taken by Ian Wood, of Morecambe, Lancashire.
The other, right, depicts a farming scene at Brompton, near Northallerton, taken by Barbara Whitham, of Sheffield.
Judge and Yorkshire farmer Russell Toothill said: "We received lots of images of the large cotton-reel bales that pepper the landscape at harvest time.
"We felt that Mr Wood's version was the best, capturing the colours and textures of the scene and a wonderful sky too.
"The photo taken at Brompton was one of the few that featured water, an environmental resource that farmers are increasingly having to care for.
"We particularly like the sense of tranquillity in this photo."
