A RETIRED company director accused of murdering his wife 15 years ago was yesterday granted bail.
Teesside Crown Court was told Peter Heron "vehemently denies" killing his partner, Ann, in August 1990.
Last Friday, Mr Heron was remanded in custody when he appeared before Newton Aycliffe magistrates, but yesterday a judge agreed to grant him bail with conditions.
Mr Justice Forbes ordered him to surrender his passport, reside at his daughter's address, near Yarm, and report daily to the local police station.
The judge also said Mr Heron must not approach or contact prosecution witnesses either directly or indirectly.
During the 40-minute hearing Mr Heron spoke only to confirm his name.
He refused to comment after the hearing.
