PRIMARY school youngsters are striving to make Christmas special for children less fortunate than themselves by supporting the Shoe Box Appeal.
Pupils from North Park Primary School, in Spennymoor, have managed to collect enough gifts to put together more than 65 boxes for the appeal which they presented to their local drop-off point at Asda in the town yesterday.
Headteacher Christine Clough praised their efforts and revealed that their caring natures had helped many charities this year.
She said: "We have raised an awful lot of money for several charities and appeals this year and every time the children and their parents have been very generous with their support. The Shoe Box Appeal has been no exception."
The children raised £253 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, £352 for the Tsunami Appeal, £94 for the Butterwick Children's Hospice and £400 for the Malcolm Sergeant Cancer Appeal.
The shoe boxes have been filled with small toys, school supplies, sweets, and other gifts and will be sent to children across Eastern and Central Europe.
