A SHOPPING centre is offering quick-witted shoppers the chance to get their hands on some cash.

The Prince Bishops Centre in Durham will run its Grab a Grand game on Sunday as part of events being held for the city's Christmas lights switch-on celebrations.

Two lucky shoppers will have the chance to go into a perspex booth and grab as many notes as they can in 30 seconds, while the £1,000 cash is being blown about by air pumped into the booth.

The game proved popular when the centre first ran it on the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Shoppers who spend £50 or more in any of the centre's shops on Sunday, between 11am and 4.45pm, can take their receipts to a kiosk next to the temporary stage set up in the Market Place for the lights switch-on.

Centre manager Richard Toynbee said: "We're rewarding customers for their continued support by giving them a chance to win back the money that they have spent in the centre.

"It will also be a great sight for all the people gathered to see the lights switch-on."

He added that people who enter the draw should be there at 5pm to see if they have been picked.

If they are not, another winner will be given the opportunity to take part.

The event will be followed by the start of the lights switch-on, which will be performed by Coronation Street actors Bruce Jones and Wendi Peters, who play Les and Cilla Battersby.
