EMPLOYERS are being urged not to miss an event next week which highlights the benefits of employing people with disabilities.
Called Taking the Dis' out of Disability, the free seminar will be on Tuesday, in the Baltic Suite of Hartlepool's Maritime Experience, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, followed by a free lunch.
There will be information on the wealth of support available from organisations, including Action for Blind People, Hartlepool Deaf Centre, Jobcentre Plus and Remploy, plus updates on the Disability Discrimination Act.
The event has been organised by Hartlepool Borough Council's Work Smart project to help and encourage firms to use good employment practices.
Sheila Watson, of the Work Smart project, said: "Many firms experience recruitment problems, yet there's a large, untapped resource of people with disabilities who can and want to work, but who often face barriers that prevent them from doing so.
"One barrier is the attitude of some employers, and another is employers not knowing what to do or what help and support is available."
