Goblet Of Fire gave a smart winning performance in the Macmillan Cancer Relief Novices' Chase at Fakenham to hint he has a bright future over fences.
Switched from hurdles for the first time, the six-year-old gave a fairly fluent jumping display in the £11,000-added contest over an extended three miles, upsetting the odds-on favourite Unleash.
The Paul Nicholls-trained 2-1 winner was always handy and took charge four fences from home, passing long-time leader Deltic Arrow.
As expected, his main challenger emerged in the shape of Unleash but Christian Williams never allowed Goblet Of Fire to lose concentration and he finished with a length and three-quarters to spare.
Williams said: ''That was great. He was a bit lazy in front but he's a nice prospect. Hopefully, he'll be a different horse next time.''
