MILLIONS of pounds will be spent across Darlington to improve heating systems in council houses.
Darlington Borough Council is spending £700,000 each year for the next five years on improving heating systems across the borough.
At the moment, work is concentrating in the Haughton area of the town where about £454,000 is being spent.
The money is being used to replace heating systems as they reach the end of their serviceable life.
Councillor Bill Dixon, the council's cabinet member for community and public protection, said: "It is important that all our houses have the best heating systems that work well and are energy efficient."
Any tenants with queries about the work can call tenant liaison officers Louise Cockfield or Sandra Teasdale on (01325) 388574.
