The Northern Lights Film Festival is all set to generate more than £250,000 for the region's economy later this month.
The event, taking place at sites across the region between next Thursday and Thursday, November 24, will attract hundreds of visitors from across northern Europe.
It includes a film industry summit, where experts will meet on Tyneside to attend a series of screenings from 12 northern European countries.
One NorthEast director of regeneration and tourism John Holmes said: "The Northern Lights Film Festival is a great example of the major role of cultural events play in attracting people and investment to the region as well as raising our profile on the international stage."
The next generation of film-makers will also be featured at the festival in the form of the Northern Lights Youth Film Academy.
Films shown at this year's festival will include a regional premiere of Dark Horse by Dagur Kari and a retrospective into the life and work of the Swedish screen icon Greta Garbo.
