A FORMER boxer was jailed yesterday for assaulting his girlfriend at their North-East home.
Teesside Crown Court was told that Andrew Gardner left Lynne Reynolds, 24, needing stitches in her face after he attacked her at their flat in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
The couple had earlier been drinking heavily in bars in the town.
Gardner, 32, claimed that she had hurt him when he was suffering from broken ribs after a fall.
Miss Reynolds, who had a four-month relationship with him, told police that Gardner threatened her, saying: "I'm going to kill you and then I'm going to kill myself."
Andrew McFaul, mitigating, said that Gardner had no history of violence and the relationship was now over.
Gardner, of Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, was jailed for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm assault and making a threat to kill on July 14.
