A SHAKESPEARE play whose name is never uttered by superstitious actors is exciting a theatre director.
Theatre Babel began a five-night run with Macbeth at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Tuesday.
The company version's of the tale - often referred to merely as The Scottish Play by actors worried that saying its name will bring bad luck - has won praise from critics.
Gala director Simon Stallworthy said: "Macbeth never fails to astound and amaze me.
"I've directed two productions and seen several more and still learn something new every time I encounter this fabulous play.
"I can't wait to see this version by one of the most exciting theatre companies working in the UK today. It's sure to have the intensity and brilliance they bring to all their work."
Performances are at 7.30pm and there will be a matinee on Saturday at 2pm.
Tickets cost £15, concessions £13, and £12 for the Saturday matinee. They are available from the box office by calling 0191-332 4041.
