PLANS for a late night take-away stall on Teesside have met with opposition.
Police and retailers have complained about proposals to site a fast food stall in Stockton High Street, from 8pm to 3am, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Siavash Hassanzadeh is applying to Stockton Borough Council for permission to site his catering trailer either near the Oxfam shop or Zanzibar nightclub, selling burgers, hotdogs, pies and chips.
But Cleveland Police believe it will lead to increased violence and anti-social behaviour in the town centre, as people converge on the food van.
A letter to Stockton council licensing officers from police stated: "Police resources are already stretched to the limit, especially during the core policing times between 10pm and 3am.
"A fast-food van parked outside the nightclub Zanzibar would encourage people to remain in the vicinity longer, therefore increasing the potential for crime and disorder to occur."
Debenham Tie Leung, which acts as managing agents for the neighbouring Castlegate Shopping Centre, has also opposed the application.
Stockton council's licensing committee will discuss the issue at 10am on Tuesday.
