Detectives investigating one of the region's longest running murder cases have this morning arrested a man after raiding a house in Scotland.
Housewife Ann Heron, 44, died at her isolated home at Middleton St George on the outskirts of Darlington in August 1990. Her body was found in a pool of blood on the hottest day of the year.
A six-strong team of officers from County Durham yesterday travelled to Scotland and, supported by officers from Strathclyde Police, raided a bungalow in the Motherwell area of North Lanarkshire at 7.30am this morning.
A 70-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is this morning being driven back to the North-East for questioning.
