Four men, all white and in their late teens or early twenties, attacked the man. Two were carrying baseball bats, which were used in the fight.
The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a suspected fractured cheekbone.
Officers said there would have been considerable noise and shouting during the incident, and witnesses can contact PC Andy MacLintock on 0845 6060365.
