SCHOOLCHILDREN are learning how to stay safe at the eighth annual Sedgefield Safety Carousel event.
Around 1,200 pupils from primary schools across the borough will have taken part in the event at Newton Aycliffe Young People's Centre by the time it ends on Friday.
The eight-day Safety Carousel aims to pass on community safety advice and awareness to all young people by using fun and informative workshops.
More than 10,000 young people have taken part in the annual event since it was launched in 1998.
Six organisations - the restorative justice team, fire and rescue service, police, Northern Electric, The Dogs' Trust and The British Transport Police - hold a series of 15-minute workshops to deliver vital safety messages.
Event organiser Caroline Stephens, from Sedgefield Borough Council's leisure services, said: "We want to raise pupils' awareness of potentially dangerous situations they might find themselves in."
