PRIMARY school children have been given safety advice from a local building company.
Construction firm MMP, based at Newton Aycliffe, is building a SureStart nursery next to Moorside Primary School, near Consett.
Staff from the company visited the school to talk to the children and staged a Stay Safe competition to help the children take in the message.
The children had to fill in a quiz, with all the answers to be found in a health and safety booklet which highlighted the dangers to be found on building sites.
Headteacher Janet Wrightson said: "It was a great day, with the pupils not only enjoying themselves, but learning a lot too."
Glyn Neasham, health and safety manager at MMP, said: "Since the school is right next to one of our construction sites, we wanted to make sure the children were fully aware of the dangers of a building site.
"So, we thought the best way to educate them is to launch a competition that makes it fun for them too."
