A POLICEMAN who pioneered a scheme to get uninsured drivers off the roads has been honoured for his work.
Inspector John Greveson developed and implemented the Uninsured Driver Scheme across North Yorkshire last year.
And as a measure of its success, more than 90 vehicles were confiscated in the first month of operation - and more than 70 per cent of the occupants had criminal convictions.
Yesterday Insp Greveson, who is based in Harrogate, was presented with a Certificate of Merit at a ceremony held in police headquarters at Newby Wiske, near Northallerton.
Chief Constable Della Cannings also presented Royal Humane Society Resuscitation Awards to the Reverend Thomas Keighley and Victoria Rhodes in recognition of their quick and selfless actions in coming to the aid of a cyclist who suffered a cardiac arrest on the Pateley Bridge to Middlesmoor road at Gouthwaite Reservoir.
The paramedics who attended the scene said their actions maintained and saved the life of the cyclist.
Long service and good conduct awards were presented to: Detective Superintendent Lewis Raw, Special Constable Tony Samuels, Inspector Shaun Thompson. PC Kerrie Shields, PC Geoff Bonas, Detective Constable Lance Gilroy, Insp John Greveson, Sergeant Simon Smith, PC Gary Stoneman-Roberts, Sergeant Richard Parsons, Sergeant David Merritt, Detective Sergeant David Peat, PC Andy Langford, Detective Inspector Paul Warner and control room operator Lyndsey Swales.
