A NEW bridge based on the designs of Stockton schoolchildren was opened yesterday.
Pupils from Layfield Primary School, Yarm, came up with the designs for the bridge, crossing Skytering Beck, in Willey Flatt Field, Yarm, following a workshop they held with artist Graeme Hopper.
The bridge and some nearby seats are decorated with images of plants and animals.
The project is part of the ongoing Willey Flatt Field project, a partnership between Stockton and Yarm town councils, and the Willey Flatt Field Regeneration Group.
It was built at a cost of about £168,000 which was made up from several funding sources.
Dari Taylor, MP for Stockton South, attended the opening.
She said: "My hope is that the bridge will be respected and kept looking as pleasant as it does now."
