DANGEROUS driving around primary schools across the Hambleton district will come under special scrutiny next week.
Community safety experts will be promoting safer school runs as part of the Watch Out! There's a Kid About! campaign being run as part of National Road Safety Week.
Spearheaded by road safety charity Brake, the week long event aims to stimulate community involvement in promoting road safety awareness all year round.
Hambleton's Community Safety Partnership is tying it into its winter road safety campaign - its officers want to tackle irresponsible parking, incorrect use of seatbelts and mobile phones as well as speeding.
Over the coming week, Hambleton traffic warden Bryan Tongue will be visiting schools across the district to talk to people as they drop off and collect children.
Community safety officers will also be out and about with the partnership's two speed matrix signs.
Sergeant Matt France said: "Ensuring that our children have a safe journey to and from school is a priority for every parent. And this is especially important during the winter months when we have dark mornings rain, fog, low sun, ice and snow to deal with.
"Life is so hectic these days and we often drive from A to B without a moment's thought - relying heavily on our car's new electronic wizardry rather than good old fashioned driving sense.
"We need to give ourselves more time in winter paying attention to the various road conditions.
"This campaign aims to raise awareness and educate people about their responsibilities especially around primary schools."
