A TEENAGER is preparing for the trip of a lifetime to work with orphaned youngsters in South Africa.
Hannah Wood, 17, of Leyburn, North Yorkshire, will be placed in an orphanage in Johannesburg by the Project Trust charity.
Hannah, a student at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington, will be teaching at the centre for a year, after she arrives there next August.
Her aim is to become a primary school teacher and, after her gap year, she hopes to go to Sheffield University to further her ambition.
Before going to South Africa, Hannah has to raise £3,950 and is organising a series of fundraising events, including baking cakes and selling them to her fellow students.
She said: "I'm excited about going to South Africa and I hope I'll learn a lot and make some difference to the lives of those I'll be working with.
"But there's lots to do before then. Apart from fundraising, I've got to study and pass my A-levels."
