THE Army has asked highways chiefs to close a road to the public.
The Ministry of Defence has requested that a stopping-up order is given for Waithwith Road, in Catterick Garrison.
The request comes after the MoD announced a major redevelopment of the military land next to the road.
Objections to the road closure have been received from the British Horse Society.
The society claims the road is the only quiet route out of Catterick Garrison.
However, officers from North Yorkshire County Council are recommending that the application is approved.
The issue will be discussed at a Richmondshire area committee meeting at West Burton village hall on Monday.
