TWO people were last night being questioned by detectives after a nightclub raid in which a robber escaped with more than £30,000.
During the early morning robbery, the club manager was waylaid in his home in Trimdon Grange, County Durham, by an intruder, who was possibly armed with a gun.
The manager was then tied up and left for more than eight hours while the robber took his keys and car and drove to the DH-1 nightclub in North Road, Durham City.
There he helped himself to the takings from the safe, coolly loading the money into a trolley, which he pulled through the streets as he made his getaway.
Police yesterday raided an address in the Framwellgate Moor area of the city and arrested a man and a woman, both in their 20s.
They were last night being held at Durham City police station for questioning.
Detectives have appealed for help from a number of witnesses, including a bus driver, taxi driver, cyclist and council workmen who were outside the club when the robber emerged at about 5.40am on Monday.
Detective Inspector Eric Malkin, the officer leading the investigation, said: "Despite the early hour, the CCTV footage shows there were quite a number of people in North Road and we would like to talk to them as a matter of urgency."
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to ring Durham police on 0800 60 60 365 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. Full story - Page
