Durham's Mike Hussey will make his Test debut for Australia against the West Indies tomorrow following the withdrawal of opener Justin Langer.

Langer failed a fitness test on his rib injury so the 30-year-old Hussey has been drafted into the starting line-up for the match in Brisbane.

Hussey, who has played 18 one-day internationals for Australia, said: ''I've been dreaming about this since I was a little kid. Hopefully it will all sink in when I've been presented with that baggy green cap.

''I really feel like I had to earn it and that's what Test cricket in Australia is about. I've been through heaps, but loved every minute along the way. All the hard work has been worth it.''

Hussey enjoyed a memorable spell in England last season, captaining Durham to promotion to the top flight in both forms of the game.

Durham coach Martyn Moxon believes Hussey's Test call was no more than the left-hander deserved.

Moxon said: ''It's great news for Mike to be included in the Test side. He has performed superbly for Durham and Australia this season and it seems only right that his achievements are rewarded.

''Mike is an asset to any team and I'm sure he will make a valuable contribution to their squad.''

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: In the UniBond League Cup, Bishop Auckland went out 4-2 at Wakefield-Emley last night.

They went behind after 20 minutes, Damien Reeves scored from a rebound, but Ben Jackson hit the equaliser.

Wakefield went into the break 3-1 up with Matthew Hoyle lobbing John Mohan, then Reeves fired a third. Reeves completed his hat-trick on 71 minutes for Damon Robson to race clear to pull a goal back for Bishops.

In the Angrove Northern League Billingham Town held leaders Bedlington to a 4-4 draw at Bedford Terrace.

Town went 3-0 up through Jamie Clarke, David Yale and Stephen Flockett and, after both sides had a man sent off, Bedlington came storming back with goals from Sam Kitchen (44mins), Keith Douglas (54mins), Robbie Cockburn (70mins) and Anthony Shandran (75mins), but Flockett deservedly equalised for Town on 78 minutes and then missed a good chance for the winner.

Shildon moved up three places when they drew 2-2 at Jarrow Roofing. Gary O'Hara put them in front from the penalty spot on 24 minutes, but Roofing hit back at the start of the second half with two goals by Paul Chow, one a penalty. Dean Wilson salvaged a point.

West Auckland won 3-1 at Esh Winning. Mattie Moffat put them in the lead on 13 minutes from a David Bayles free-kick, but Ian Bickerstaff equalised for Esh. However, former Esh player Kevin Hamilton scored twice in three minutes after coming on as a sub to give West the points.

TENNIS: Greg Rusedski's hopes of finishing the year as British number one were shattered yesterday when he was beaten in straight sets by third seed Nikolay Davydenko in the second round of the Paris Masters Series.

The 32-year-old, who won in the French capital in 1998, was thrashed 6-2 6-2 in 59 minutes by the Russian.

GOLF: Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie has again hinted he wants to eventually become Ryder Cup captain.

The name of the 42-year-old Scot, who on Sunday topped the European money list for a record eighth time after a gap of six years, has already been linked to the job in 2010 at Celtic Manor in Wales and back in March he expressed an interest.

''Not many improve in their 40s so hopefully I can play at least one more Ryder Cup and we will see what happens from there,'' he said.

''I hope I can help the team in other ways.''

SNOOKER: Chinese teenagers Ding Jun Hui and Liang Wen Bo were men in a hurry at the Travis Perkins UK Championship qualifiers in Prestatyn yesterday.

Ding, the 18-year-old who won the China Open last April, thrashed Judd Trump 9-2 to reach the second round while his compatriot Liang, also 18, hammered Alfie Burden 9-1.

Despite winning his home title last season, beating Stephen Hendry 9-5 in the final, Ding was a wildcard in Beijing and so not eligible for ranking points and began the new campaign in 62nd place on the official list.

GOLF: A par six hole measuring an incredible 878 yards is being played on the Asian Tour in Thailand this week. The hole is at the St Andrews Hill club - one of two par sixes on the normal lay-out, but for the Double A International Open the other has been reduced to a par five.
