Sausage-makers in Cumbria are applying to the European Commission to protect a Great British banger from possible foreign takeover.
They want the Cumberland Sausage to have the same protected status as that of Parma ham and Feta cheese.
It would mean producers from outside Cumbria would not be allowed to pass off their sausages as Cumberland ones.
