PUBLISHING firm Pearson yesterday reported strong profits growth as it looked to Jamie Oliver to provide the recipe for success this Christmas at its Penguin books arm.

Pearson, which also owns the Financial Times, said operating profits rose 20 per cent during the first nine months of this year and sales were up by ten per cent.

The performance was in line with expectations as Pearson enters the key selling season for Penguin and its higher education unit, which publishes textbooks for students.

Jamie's Italy is the latest recipe book from the celebrity chef and Pearson is hoping Gloria Hunniford's book will also feature strongly in Christmas stockings this year.
