THE heroes of a forgotten battlefield are to be remembered in a talk next week.
During the First World War, thousands of soldiers from the Durham Light Infantry (DLI) fought in Northern Italy - a campaign which cost 300 lives.
While much attention has been focused on the fighting on the Western Front, the campaign in Italy, when three battalions of the DLI helped stem an advance by the German and Austrian armies in October 1917, has been largely ignored.
On Saturday, November 12, DLI historian David Thompson will recall their mission during a talk entitled The Italian Job - the DLI in Italy 1917-18.
The talk will highlight the role of each of the battalions.
The talk starts at 2pm at the Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery.
Admission is £4, £3 for concessions and £2.25 for children.
