A FATHER-OF-TWO almost died after he contracted a flesh-eating bug.
Glenn Milner, 40, is suing a travel company over claims the pool he swam in on holiday caused the infection.
The sales manager needed emergency surgery to cut away the infection in his leg, and doctors gave him antibiotics to prevent toxins from entering his bloodstream.
He is now recovering at home in Sunderland.
He is suing Dedicated Holidays over claims he contracted the bug at the pool in the all-inclusive Hotel Merte, in Alcudia, Majorca.
After returning home, he was taken to hospital, where doctors saved his life after he was diagnosed with necrotising fasciitis.
He spent £2,200 with Internet company Dedicated Holidays for the two-week holiday.
But only days after he flew out on July 2, he began to feel unwell.
He and his wife Gail, 37, and their two children, Tyler, seven, and Erin, two, returned home on July 16, but his condition did not improve.
Doctors at Sunderland Royal Hospital treated him on August 16 and sent him home with antibiotics, but he deteriorated and was re-admitted 36 hours later.
He said: "It was then they told me I had a flesh-eating bug. They said each hour was critical. The bug was effectively eating me alive and they said if they did not stop the infection spreading, I could die."
He was released from hospital on September 16 after he received skin grafts on his damaged leg.
Recovering at home in Mayfield Road, South Hylton, he said: "This bug almost claimed my life. Any later and I would have almost certainly lost my leg, if not my life."
