A NEW concept in networking has been launched, opening doors for businesses at the click of a button.

Businessman Terry Chapman and son Mark have set up the Recommended Business Network (RBN) to provide an electronic marketplace operating around the clock.

The website, developed by a North Tyneside design company, allows businesses to represent themselves for their local area online by getting referrals from other users.

Mr Chapman said the system would help people who are too busy to go to functions to network and promote their company.

"It is a fact that 94.6 per cent of all businesses in the UK employ five or less people and that means the majority don't have the time to attend networking events," he said.

The RBN membership has 13 areas in the North-East. Companies pay a monthly fee to guarantee exclusive representation in their profession in a chosen area.

Middlesbrough advertising agency Ads Creative is already a member. Managing director, Veronica Wilkie, said: "RBN is a must for any business that is under-resourced in terms of a product marketing programme and without the time to implement a marketing programme or source a better supplier."
