AN action group fighting to save a village school has written to Prime Minister Tony Blair following a landmark speech he made on education.
Share (Save Hurworth and Rural Education) has used Mr Blair's speech to put its views across in the four-page letter.
Darlington Borough Council wants successful Hurworth School to take over struggling Eastbourne Comprehensive in a new academy on the edge of Darlington, but there has been strong resistance in the village of Hurworth.
Share has written to Mr Blair saying: "We invite you to visit Hurworth Maths and Computing College and see what improvements have been made in the last few years, aided by parental support."
Mr Blair spoke last week of revolutionsing education by giving parents more power and schools more freedom from local authority control.
The group also asked Mr Blair if he would send his son Leo to a school on an industrial site, next to a factory.
