Joey Hutchinson may have been on the wrong end of a bizarre penalty decision at the weekend, but the Darlington defender could not help but feel responsible for his side's controversial late defeat at Wrexham.
Referee Gary Sutton awarded Wrexham an 89th minute spot-kick, despite Hutchinson's challenge on Robbie Foy clearly taking place outside the box.
Lee McEvilly scored the resulting penalty to seal a dramatic late win for the Red Dragons, leaving Hutchinson to feel the blame was on his shoulders.
"I feel as if losing them three points is my fault," said Hutchinson. "I actually feel sick about what has happened. We deserved at least a draw out of that game and we've been cheated out of it.
"I didn't even think it was a free-kick. I went shoulder to shoulder with their lad and he's just went down. I heard the whistle go and the referee pointed to the spot - I couldn't believe it.
"The referee gave free-kick after free-kick to them all game, while we got nothing. I think he spent most of the game listening to the crowd."
And, to add to Hutchinson's woes the defender was dismissed after the final whistle for dissent.
"I don't even know what happened at the end," admitted the former Birmingham City man. "I had a few words with the referee and maybe that was the wrong thing to do. But when a decision like that goes against you it's difficult to keep your emotions to yourself."
Hutchinson will appeal against the sending off, but if Mr Sutton stands by his decision, he will miss the FA Cup first round tie at Barnsley on Saturday.
Sutton refereed Quakers' dramatic 4-4 draw at Chester earlier this season and Hutchinson said: "I remember him refereeing that game and he was exactly the same. There were all sorts of decisions going against us and he seemed to take more notice of the home fans."
But, despite the defeat, Hutchinson insists he and his teammates were able to take some positives from the Racecourse Ground.
He said: "We showed good character to come back and beat Cheltenham last week and I thought we'd done enough to get something today. "But, one stupid decision has cost us and on paper it's another defeat.
"The performance hasn't done us any harm and we will carry that into our next game."
