TEN FURLONGS is just about as far as any two-year-old wants to travel but at least the lung-busting distance shouldn't hold any fears for Newmarket-bound Genre (2.05) in the Listed Zetland Stakes, writes Colin Woods.

Richard Hannon's colt drew eight lengths clear of his 16 toiling rivals on his latest one-mile start at Doncaster, crossing the line in splendid isolation on day one of the Racing Post Trophy meeting.

Hannon's progressive youngster certainly wasn't stopping at the death, if anything he was putting even more daylight between himself and the opposition over the final 100 yards.

Genre is bound to go off at unsuitably cramped odds, so punters looking around for better value might like to have a small saver on the Middleham raider, Doctor Scott.

Mark Johnston has a decent record in the race during the previous 12 years, stretching right back to the days of the brothers Double Trigger and Double Eclipse, successful in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Doctor Scott failed to advertise his true credentials on a recent poor run at Pontefract, but as backers have found out to their cost in the past, it's unwise to write off one of Johnston's horses on the strength of one effort. Doctor Scott's dam, Milly Of The Valley, won over a mile-and-a-half, a potent injection of stamina into an already smart pedigree.
