A CONSULTATION exercise has been launched over plans to ban lorries from a narrow moorland road.
North Yorkshire County Council is looking to prevent heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) from using the road between Grinton and Bellerby Camp, near Leyburn.
Residents of Grinton have petitioned the council to introduce the ban, claiming the road is unsuitable for large vehicles.
Members of the county council's Richmondshire area committee will consult with haulage industry representatives.
They will also discuss the proposal with local businesses and parish councils.
Comments from the general public are also invited.
Councillor Melva Steckles, who chairs the area committee, said: "Members of the committee want the views of as many people as possible before reaching a decision.
"Surveys show that about eight HCVs are believed to use the route each day and we want to know whether that is appropriate given the characteristics of the road and the impact on the residents of Grinton."
Anyone wishing to comment on the proposal should write to North Yorkshire County Council's area manager Mike Woodford, at 18 Green Howards Road, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 4NR, by December 16.
