PEOPLE will be able to recycle their household waste at a centre being opened today by Stockton Borough Council's Big Green Recycling Roadshow.
The Newtown Community Resource Centre recently became a mini-recycling centre, where residents can take household waste such as cans, paper and glass jars and bottles.
Located in Durham Road, Stockton, it will be open from 10am to 4pm.
Freda the Frog, Stockton council's recycling mascot, will be joined by the council's recycling advice team, giving demonstrations on how to be green and offering residents new boxes and bags for recycling using the kerbside collection scheme.
There will also be fun activities for the family, including art-from-waste sessions with Percy, the Teesside Play and Education Resource Centre, and a magic recycling show by Marvin the Magician, showing that recycling is magic.
Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton council's cabinet member for the environment, said: "The recycling roadshow has always been well received by residents and they really take to it once they are shown just how easy it is."
SureStart Stockton-on-Tees, North Tees Primary Care Trust, the Fire Brigade, Connexions, community police, the Youth Inclusions Project, Tees Active and Stockton Online will be supporting the roadshow.
Lynne Hall, Newtown Community Resource Centre manager, said: "The project is part-funded by the European Union and is one of several initiatives Newtown is promoting to support actions within the community to benefit residents."
