A NEW service for sufferers of chronic fatigue syndrome is being established.
A team of four, based at St Margaret's Health Centre, in Durham, will provide advice and treatment for sufferers of myalgic encephalopathy, known as ME.
The service, which will be available to patients across County Durham and Darlington, will be operating from Tuesday.
The condition is estimated by the ME North-East group to affect as many as 2,200 people in County Durham, of whom about a quarter are under 25.
Chief executive Jennifer Elliott said: "For too long, people with ME have struggled with little or no help."
Durham and Chester-le-Street Primary Care Trust said a priority for the service would be to teach health workers to recognise the symptoms early.
