YOUNG bookworms in Hartlepool have got stuck into their reading.
Children across the town were invited to take part in a reading challenge run by Hartlepool's libraries over the summer.
They were able to collect a reading logbook from their local library and for each book they read, they earned a sticker and a reward.
If they read six books throughout the summer, they completed the challenge and won a medal and certificate.
About 70 of those children, aged five to 12, were presented with their certificates and medals by Councillor Carl Richardson, chairman of Hartlepool Borough Council, at Hartlepool Central Library, yesterday.
Gillian Slimings, children and young person's librarian, said: "This year's reading challenge was on the theme of a voyage of discovery.
"There were lots of reading and craft sessions at our libraries to help young people explore the culture, nature and geography of countries around the globe."
