AN athletics club has won a national quality standard award for coaching and contribution to the community.

Shildon Running and Athletic Club was presented with the England Athletics Clubmark award at Stadium 2000, Shildon.

The award is a partnership by England Athletic and Sport England, and recognises that a club has reached a high national standard of good management, coaching, equal opportunities and safety.

Neil Lomax, chairman of Shildon Running and Athletic Club, said: "We have worked hard to ensure we are delivering quality coaching to our young athletes and are delighted to be receiving the Clubmark award, which is great acknowledgement of the time and dedication put in by everyone at the club, especially the coaches."

David Lowes, athletics development officer for Durham Sport, said: "Shildon are a great example of a club within the county who are offering high quality athletics coaching to the local community and thoroughly deserve this award."
